Between Christmas and New Year we had an American family in that have been back to Madikwe River Lodge on numerous occasions. This time their loyalty to Madikwe was rewarded by witnessing our two wild dog packs interacting in an aggressive manner. They spent 20 minutes with the dogs watching the individual pack’s hierarchy’s unfold. This led to some bloodshed with different dogs nipping at each other. What made this incident even more interesting is that a lot of the interaction happened in long grass. This had the dogs leap up into the air to see where the others were. Fantastic video and still footage were taken by the guests. They left with a promise to forward some of it to us. One of the children in the group wrote us a story about a hyena called “Stompie”. Stompie lost one of his feet at some stage in his life. Every time this group visit Madikwe River lodge, be assured that Stompie is on the preferred sightings list. On check out the group had another surprise in store for us – they had actually composed and practiced a song that they sang for us to say thank you for the outstanding service received. They will be back! |
